How to Clear Browsing History

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click the three dots (⋯) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Choose Privacy, search, and services.
  5. Under Delete browsing data, click Choose what to clear.
  6. Select a Time range — such as Last hourLast 24 hoursLast 7 days, or All time.
  7. Check Browsing history.
  8. Select Clear now.

Tip: You can also press Ctrl + Shift + Delete on Windows to open the clear-browsing-data window directly.

 

Google Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click the three dots (⋮) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Delete browsing data.
  4. Choose the Time range you want to clear.
  5. Check Browsing history.
  6. Click Delete data.

Keyboard shortcut: On Windows and Chromebooks, press Ctrl + Shift + Delete. On a Mac, press Command + Shift + Delete.

 

iMac — Safari

On an iMac, browsing history is typically cleared through Safari.

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Click History in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  3. Select Clear History.
  4. Choose how much history you want to remove:
    • The last hour
    • Today
    • Today and yesterday
    • All history
  5. Click Clear History.

Important: Depending on your Safari/iCloud settings, clearing history may also remove browsing history from other Apple devices that are syncing Safari with the same iCloud account.

 

Chromebook — Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome on your Chromebook.
  2. Click the three dots (⋮) in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Delete browsing data.
  4. Choose the Time range.
  5. Make sure Browsing history is selected.
  6. Click Delete data.

Keyboard shortcut: Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete to open the menu directly.

 

 

What Else Can You Clear?

When clearing browsing data, browsers may also give you the option to remove:

  • Cookies and other site data — can sign you out of websites.
  • Cached images and files — removes stored website files and may free up some space.
  • Saved passwords — removes passwords saved in the browser, so be careful with this option.
  • Autofill information — removes saved information such as addresses and payment details.
